The Jeandel Refuge is situated at 1670 metres above sea-level on a mountain peak where you have an exceptional view of 360° of the different peaks of the mountain range. Over looking the Ski resort 'La Pierre Saint Martin', you will also find the biggest 'Lapiaz' holes in Europe, where the highest point is the Pic d'Anie (2504m). |

This calcareous mountain is great for mountain walks and has become the Mecca for French spelaeology. The refuge was built by Réné Jeandel in 1963, a ski champion in the 1950's : he was the beginning of the creation of the skiing resort.
|
He was also the coach of the French ski team in the category 'best hopes'. From here several training courses were organised and some of the students became famous: Annie Famose, Isabelle Mir...
The Refuge is situated on the edge of the ski slopes in winter and during summer is on the hiking track between the Atlantique and the Mediterranean (called the GR10)
It is also a halt on the 'haute randonnée pyrénéenne' (HRP), 2 km separates the refuge from the Spanish border. From the terrasse you have a wonderful view of the Aspe and Barétous valleys, and the plaines.
